Jeremiah 32:27 - Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
SHOULD CHRISTIANS HAVE CHRISTMAS TREES?
Allot of people are concerned over whether they should have a Christmas tree in their home at Christmas time. They have heard some of the wacky preachers say that the practice of putting up a Christmas tree in their home originated from pagan beliefs and religions.
Let me clarify this for you in five words. "The wacky preachers are right". The Tree "is" a pagan custom.
Just as Easter eggs are also a pagan custom. For this particular article, I won't go into precise detail. Just accept that these two things are a fact, or at least assume that they are. (because it "is" fact)
A long time ago when pagans were being converted to Christianity, the Church feared trying to put a halt to these customs because they were so engrained in the population, so they decided to convert the meanings of these customs to reflect on Christianity instead. The custom of decorating a tree goes back well before Christ.
Jeremiah 10:2 - 4 - Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
So, the question is, should we shuck the tree? Should we ban them from our houses? Having a Christmas tree has been a custom we have grown up with. Even our children look forward to visiting it Christmas morning. I believe that doing so would be comparable to replacing it with a little cross with a big picture of Jesus frowning at our kids when they enter the room Christmas morning. (That mean old Jesus!!!)
The point is, if you are worshiping the tree itself, or if the tree represents another God to you, take it out and burn it immediately!!! On the other hand, if the tree is simply the tradition you've grown up with and is simply a decoration in your home to bring warmth to the holiday, just leave that poor tree alone.
If Christ is the center of your holiday, you are indeed centered. Easter eggs and Easter itself, originated from worshiping the Goddess Eshtar. So, before to do away with Christmas trees and Easter eggs, remember, it isn't the item that matters, it is "Who you worship?"
It is doubtful that December 25th is the actual birth date of Jesus Christ anyway. Scholars believe that Christ was actually born around the third week in September.
The items themselves, and when we worship are not important. What is important is "Who we worship". If it isn't Jesus Christ, by all means, burn the tree and smash the eggs!
God Bless You
