~ Citizen of Heaven? ~ When it comes to politics, it has been said a million times, by a million different preachers: "You are not a citizen of the United States, you are a citizen of heaven!" Meaning of course that you should not be too politically minded, or get involved to any great degree. Voting is not a privilege, it is our right as a citizen! I can't help but wonder if these same preachers deny themselves all the other rights that are due to them as citizens. (Being a citizen of heaven and all) Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness? The right to a fair trial? Innocent until proven guilty? The right to own property? Raise a family? Have children? Paul himself took full advantage of the fact that he was a Roman citizen! Act 22:25 - But when they stretched him out with thongs, Paul said to the centurion who was standing by, "Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman and uncondemned?"Act 22:26 - When the centurion heard this, he went to the commander and told him, saying, "What are you about to do? For this man is a Roman."Act 22:27 - The commander came and said to him, "Tell me, are you a Roman?" And he said, "Yes."Act 22:28 - The commander answered, "I acquired this citizenship with a large sum of money." And Paul said, "But I was actually born a citizen."Act 22:29 - Therefore those who were about to examine him immediately let go of him; and the commander also was afraid when he found out that he was a Roman, and because he had put him in chains.We live here! We live now! The kingdom of heaven is within us! Luke 17:21 - Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.~ What Would Jesus Do? ~ Would Jesus vote? If so, who would he have voted for - Obama or McCain? Now that's a tuffy! But then, maybe that's a mute point since Jesus knows the outcome of the future and will be sitting on the throne himself. Example: Would you care if you got skipped over for a promotion at work, if you knew you were going to win $100,000,000.00 in the lottery next month? The fact is, Jesus followed and adhered to the laws and government of the land. He also instructed us to do the same. Israel was under Roman occupation. The law was whatever Caesar said it was, and Jesus respected that. Neither Jesus or anyone else had a vote. ~ By the people for the people ~ If Jesus respected and was subject to the Roman government under Caesar in 33 AD, would he not also be subject to this government if he were living here today in the flesh? Would he not still command that we also do the same? Yes, we are to be subject to the government, but here is the big difference. This government is run "By the people - For the people". If you live in the United States and are a citizen here, YOU "ARE" THE GOVERNMENT! If Jesus said 2000 year ago: "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's", then wouldn't he also say: "Give to the people, what is the peoples - and to God what is God's", if he were living here today? Luke 20:25 - And He said to them, "Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."You "are" the government! It is your duty to choose your representatives in Washington. It is your right! If Jesus did not oppose Caesar's government, and instructed people to be subject to it, it's unlikely that he would oppose this government either. (You) It "is" likely however, that he would tell us to be subject to this one also. That means "GET INVOLVED" because you "are" the government. Like it or not. Enjoy the freedoms that you have, and do everything you can to sustain them. (vote the bums out) Your freedoms can be taken away in a wink! When you find yourself living under a dictatorship, it will only be because your government (you) didn't do it's job. Then it will be too late. ~ The Kingdom of God ~ Let me point out for the many "Citizen of Heaven" preachers out there. The kingdom of heaven is "not" a democracy. You will "not" be a citizen, you'll be a subject! There will not be an elected president, there will be a king! Your vote will not count! Your opinion will not matter! What the king says, goes! PERIOD! However, who better to rule over you than someone who loves you enough to die for you?
